William Walter Hixson, 84 of Wooster, went home to be with his Savior and wife Barb, on Friday. February 16, 2024, at Wooster Life Care Hospice surrounded by family and special friends.
He was born on January 4, 1940, at Wooster Hospital to Walter O. and Iva Grace (Humrichouser) Hixson. He is survived by his daughter Wendy (Myron) Swartzentruber, grandsons Trevor & Bryce Goody and step-grandchildren Chelsie Swartzentruber, Tyler (Briana) Swartzentruber. His loyal companion was his dog, Tootles.
Bill was a retired long distance truck driver having worked for Wenham, Frito-Lay, PPG, Consolidated Freight Ways, and retiring from Santmyer Oil Co. in 2005, also worked with his special cousin Larry Maxwell as an owner operator. Bill was a hard worker with an excellent work ethic.
In retirement Bill & Barb enjoyed camping with friends and fishing with the grandsons. Bill could always be found volunteering for many clubs and church events/committees. He worked in the kitchen at the Jeromesville Legion for several meals. As a member of the Jeromesville Lion’s Club he was the Lion of the year 2 times. However, the honor of serving in the Ashland Honor Guard was his proudest accomplishment. He was ready anytime the call came to serve, always saying the veterans deserve this.
Bill and Barb were married for 52 years. Bill was left with a broken heart after Barb’s passing on September 23, 2020. They made their home just outside of Jeromesville in a wonderful neighborhood where lifelong friends, more like family, were made while living there for 51 years.
He never knew a stranger, always ready to lend a hand, or an ear, to a friend in need. If you called him a friend, you would have a friend for life. Bill had a great sense of humor and only wanted to bring a smile.
Friends may call at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville on Wednesday from 5-7pm, funeral services will be at the Jeromesville Methodist Church, Thursday at 11am with graveside services to follow at the Reedsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jeromesville Methodist Church, 40 North Street, P.O. Box 116, Jeromesville Ohio 44840.
