Wilbur W. Spade, 91, died peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, April 25, 2021 surrounded by
family and friends and his dog, Sandy.
He was born December 22, 1929, to Ralph and Jenness Spade. After his mother died when he was only
5 months old, he was raised by his grandmother, Julia Spade, and his aunt, Ethel Spade. He lived his
whole life in Wayne County.
On January 28, 1950, he married Cotta I Long. They were married for 57 years before her death on
June 5, 2007.
Wilbur worked in pipeline construction and after his retirement, he owned and operated Spade
Excavating.
Wilbur loved family reunions, ice fishing, camping and mowing grass.
He is survived by daughter, Jeannie Tyler, of Wooster, sons, Richard (Robin) Spade of Wooster and
Larry (Shelly) Spade of Creston, grandchildren, Michelle (Ken) Hiner, Erica (Michael) Springer,
Richard Spade, Jeremi (Tammy Hales) Spade, Angela (Jason) Slarb, Bryan Spade, and Scott (Angela)
Spade, and special friend, Ruth Robinson. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Christina Elliot, a great great-granddaughter, Lillian Marie
Ventrone, three sisters, Ruth Miller, Esther Zimmerman and Fayanna Beichler and two brothers, Carl
and Charles Spade.
Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday April 29, 2021 at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with Rev.
Sue Chidley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
