Obituary

Vita “Kay” Jacobs, 80 of Dover and formerly of Jeromesville passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio.  She was born November 3, 1941 near Sugarcreek, Ohio. She was the daughter of David “Harry” and Helen “Schilling” Angel.  “Kay” began her teaching career in the Northwest suburb of Chicago at Barrington Grove Avenue Elementary School where she taught for four years. She then moved back to Ohio when she married Samuel Jacobs in 1967. Kay continued her teaching career in the Wooster City Schools at Kean Elementary for twenty-six years. Kay dearly loved working with her students. She especially enjoyed teaching creative writing and related activities.  Throughout her years in education Kay received several honors. While teaching in Barrington, Illinois she was nominated to speak at an educator’s conference in Denver, Colorado on “Team Teaching”, but declined. She was also the recipient of the Wooster Jaycees Young Outstanding Educator Award. In addition, she was a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. Kay also was honored by being included in the third edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.  For several years she was a volunteer for Wooster’s People to People Ministries for the Back to School and Christmas projects.  Kay loved reading, hunting mushrooms, collecting antiques, as well as writing poetry. She also loved the German Shepherds she and Sam had throughout the years.  In 2006 Vita Kay and her siblings established the Harry and Helen Angel Memorial Scholarship through the Garaway Education Foundation that was to be given to a Garaway Senior each year for eight years.  Vita is survived by sisters, Wanda Fishel of New Philadelphia and L. Ann (Bill) Fender of Dundee and brother Rex G. (Pat) Angel of Sugarcreek, brother and sister-in-law, Errol and Alice Jacobs of Carrollton, Mitch and Renee Jacobs of Newark, Ohio, John and Jodi (Jacobs) Brucia of Marysville, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to Sam, her husband of forty-four years, she was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Helen Angel, her mother and father-in-law Betty and CA Jacobs, her brothers Owen D. Angel, David A. Angel, sister-in-law Nancy Angel, a nephew Vince Angel and a niece, Grace Burkhart.  There will be no calling hours.  A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at 1926 Saltwell Road NW, Dover, Ohio on Monday, May 23rd at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dixie Hendricks officiating.  Those who wish may contribute to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1161 Mechanicsburg Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691; the Dover Fire Department or a charity of one’s choice.  Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville assisted the family with arrangements.
