Vernita Faye Mellor, 87 of Ashland died Sunday January 13, 2019
at Crystal Care Center of Ashland. She was born August 21,
1931 in Alton, West Virginia the daughter of Thomas E. and
Delma Wyatt Long. She was a member of the Ashland First
United Methodist Church and had been a cook for the Good
Shepherd and Brethren Care Nursing Homes. She married
Malcolm Mellor in 1949 and often told her daughters, a
farmer’s wife was not a life she would have chosen but a life she was blessed to be given.
She is survived by five daughters, Marilyn (Thad) Mahoney of Seville, Carolyn Bettac of Ashland,
Kathryn Linder of Jacksonville, FL, Betsy (Frank) Harris of Cave Creek, AZ and Wanda Kennedy of
Gibsonton, FL, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-granchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, two brothers,
James (Helen) Long of Ashland and Thomas (Sherry) Long of Ashland, two sisters, Linda Zwally of
Lakeland, FL and Cinda Crider of Groveport, OH and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Malcolm Mellor on June 9, 1995, and a
daughter, Louise Elaine Mellor.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday January 16, 2019 at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with
Rev. Anne Pairan officiating. Burial will be in Vermillion Cemetery.
Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
