Obituary

Stephen P. Schwarzwalder, 74, of Shreve passed away Friday, June 30, 2023 surrounded by his family after a period of declining health.

Steve was born on January 30, 1949 to George and Donna Jean Schwarzwalder who preceded him in death. He was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in McZena (Lakeville, Ohio}, where he sang in the choir and served on Church Council.

Steve graduated in 1967 from Triway High School and attended The Ohio State University- Mansfield. While at OSU Steve met the love of his Iife, Sharon (Heidlebaugh). They were wed on August 15, 1971. Steve joined the US Army Reserves and served for 6 years. Steve was always a farmer and worked in public health as a Registered Sanitarian with the Richland County Health Department, Director of Environmental Health at Morrow County Health Department, and Emergency Response Coordinator for the Holmes County Health Department. He was also sexton of the Fairview Cemetery (Shreve) for 22 years. He was a lifelong exhibitor at the Wayne County Fair. He enjoyed driving his family's draft ponies for 25 years at the Pine Tree Barn and in numerous parades. Steve loved performing; singing with the Schwarzwalder Family Singers, numerous choirs and quartets, and WACPAC productions. He was a member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge #528 in Shreve, where he had served as Worshipful Master. He was also a member of Shreve American Legion Post 67.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, Steve is survived by family who loved him dearly including his son Scott (Amanda) Schwarzwalder of Wooster, daughters Stacey (Jared) Sigler and Stephanie Schwarzwalder both of Shreve, his granddaughters Georgia and Alexandra Sigler whom he loved dearly, a brother Tom (Kim) Schwarzwalder of Ashland, a sister Joy (Paul) Gruetter of Bluffton, brother-in-law Randy (Cindy) Heidlebaugh of Lexington, nieces and nephews Danielle, Christian, Kevin, Kristina, Lindsey and Chelsea, beloved aunt Beverly Ann Kean, and cousins Judy and Beth Kean.

Calling Hours are being held at Fickes Funeral Home (Jeromesville) on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 6-9pm and one hour prior to the Celebration of Life being held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church McZena (Lakeville) on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11am.
