Sharon S. (Brookover) Obrecht, of Jeromesville passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the age of 80 at The Ashford of Grove City Assisted Living Facility under the care of hospice. She was born June 25, 1944 in Ashland County, the daughter of Joseph and Carrie Brookover. She graduated from Jeromesville High School in 1962. She attended Kent State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1966 and also received her Master’s Degree in Computer Education from Ashland College in 1988.

She started her first teaching job at Triway Local Schools, in the fall of 1966. Sharon then married Mike on June 21, 1968. She continued to teach at Triway until she had her only child, daughter, Michele (Obrecht) Hilleary July of 1970. After a brief leave of absence, she found her home at Hillsdale High School teaching Consumer Science. Her love of teaching led her to being involved in the FCCLA organization (formerly FHA/HERO), through her years she worked with many students teaching life skills that led students to set goals and accomplish their goals. She committed countless hours and days of her own time outside of the classroom to guide her students to allow for growth and development that would carry them into their young adult lives and beyond. She led 11 students to become state officers for the organization and received recognition from the State of Ohio where she was recognized as State Officer Advisor of the Year. Even today many students will always recognize her as “Mrs. O” and will remember her for her infectious smile.

Sharon retired from teaching in June 2001 after 35 years. In her retirement years she enjoyed time with her family and friends, she loved her monthly get togethers with her retired teacher lady friends and they name their group (DFL, Dessert First Ladies). She enjoyed traveling early in retirement. She loved supporting and watching her grandchildren grow. She was blessed to see them in their activities and watched them graduate from high school, attend college, join the armed services, receive certifications for Firefighting and graduate from the Columbus Fire Academy amongst many other accomplishments. Sharon along with Mike loved dogs, they owned 22 dogs during their years together, they were especially fond of golden retrievers, they adopted 16 of their 22 dogs from rescues.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Michele (Joe) Hilleary of Grove City, grandchildren, Josh, Derrick and Drake Hilleary, as well as two great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Avery Hilleary. Her beloved sister and friend, Joan (Russ) Chapman of Ashland, Ohio and brother-in-law, Joel Obrecht (Teresa Fedor) Bowling Green, OH.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Kenneth Brookover, brother-in-law, Steven Obrecht and sister-in-law, Cindy Obrecht and her husband of over 50 years, Micheal (Mike) Obrecht.
