Sharon Harper Obituary

Sharon Sue (DeVault) Harper, age 73 of Ashland, died August 2, 2024, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was born January 13, 1951, to Richard O. and June (Edwards) DeVault. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Rick DeVault. Sharon married August 28, 1971, to Terry L Harper at Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland, Ohio. Sharon and Terry met at the Ohio State Fair while in high school and enjoyed 52 cherished years of marriage together. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1969 and flight attendant school in California in 1970.

Sharon was a baton twirling teacher for 40 years to students across Ashland, Richland and Wayne counties, including 20 years as the Ashland High School twirling instructor. She was also a National Baton Twirling Association (NBTA) judge at competitions across the country.

Sharon and her husband Terry were the proud owners of the beloved Brookside Park staple, The Merry-Go-Round, for 18 years. Concerts in the park, weekend baseball and softball tournaments, and lots of time spent serving up ice cream, smiles and many, many memories comprised their days.

She loved being with her family and cherished their time together during the holidays playing games, making crafts and laughing. She enjoyed vacationing at Carolina Beach and driving up the east coast to Vermont during the fall to admire the changing of the seasons. Sharon was an avid reader of Agatha Christie books, enjoyed Broadway musicals and looked forward to watching the Tony Awards every year.

Autumn Saturdays were spent cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football teams. Fond memories were made during multiple road trips to South Bend, Indiana with her family to watch the Irish play.

She loved to go flower shopping in the spring, plant vegetables in their vegetable garden, make homemade spaghetti sauce and buy mums, gords and pumpkins in the fall.

Sharon is survived by her husband Terry L Harper: a daughter Angela Harper, and a son (TJ) Terry Harper Jr.
