Ruth Ewing, 100, of Wooster passed away Thursday, June 29th at Westview Healthy Living. She was born May 17th, 1923, in Wayne County to Ralph and Pearl (Rush) Heffelfinger. She married Paul Ewing on September 3rd, 1948. Paul preceded her in death April 3rd 1987.
Ruth was a graduate of Wooster High School and attended Wooster Business College. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Wooster where she was active in Augustana Church Circle and served for many years on the Alter Guild and as a greeter. She was also a charter member of the former Jaycettes, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Wooster Women’s Guild Civic Club having served each organization as President.
Ruth enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs. She volunteered at Wooster Community Hospital and was a member of Women of the Word Bible Study. She worked as a Secretary/Bookkeeper for a number of years in the Wooster area. Her longest place of employment was in the office of Barney Lehman’s clothing store.
Ruth is survived by a son, Paul T. Ewing of Arlington, Texas and a daughter, Heidi A. Ewing of Mayfield Heights. She will be deeply missed by her children and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality and love of people. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Glorine Fickes of Jeromesville and Cotta Shearer of Butler, Pennsylvania, and a brother William Heffelfinger of Lodi.
Graveside services will be held on July 6th at 1:00pm at Fairview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Fickes Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at fickesfuneralhome.com.
