Russell Edgar Shopbell, 90, of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Lutheran Village.
He was born May 8, 1928, the son of Cloyd and Eunice (Fulk) Shopbell.  He was a member of the Ashland Christian Church.  Russell was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Sabine.  He worked for D.D. Hootman, building barns - including the Children’s Home barn in Ashland.  He worked at F. E. Myers Co., the Midwest Carpenters Union , and also built many homes throughout Ashland County.  He spent many hours working with the Ashland County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.  He enjoyed family, genealogy, bowling, playing pool, and hunting mushrooms.
On May 14, 1971, Russell married Janet (Seibert) Shopbell, who survives. Surviving also are seven children, Roger (Joyce) Shopbell of Ashland, Ken Shopbell of Modesto, CA, Peggy (Shopbell) Weaver of Hayesville, Larry Shopbell of Mansfield, Gayle (Shopbell) Hencye of Ashland, and Jodie (Shopbell) (Don) Frazer of Ashland and step-daughter, Paula (Bob) Gill of Ashland, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Maxine (George) Shopbell and Judy (John) James, brothers-in-law, Ted Seibert, Tom (Sarah) Seibert and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd and Eunice Shopbell, sister Mildred (Shopbell) Smith, and brothers Clarence (Gene) Shopbell, Lee Shopbell and George Shopbell.

Services will be held Saturday March 30th at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with Minister Edward Graves and brother-in-law Ted Seibert officiating.  Friends may call between the hours of 11:00-1:00. Military Honors will be presented by the Ashland Honor Guard with services immediately following.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lutheran Village and Pathways Hospice of Ashland for the wonderful loving care given to Russell during the time that he was at Lutheran Village.
