Rozella (Amma) Smith, age 87 of Elyria, OH was called home by the Lord Saturday
October 16, 2021 after a brief stay at Mercy New Life Hospice, surrounded by her
daughters.
She was born June 2, 1934 in Florence, OH the daughter of Edward and Helen (Russell)
Reising. Roze was an RN from 1969 until she retired around 1993. Her first years in
nursing were spent at Oberlin Hospital, Lorain Community Hospital, Cleveland Metro
Hospital and the Elms nursing home in Wellington, OH. She then continued her career
as a traveling nurse and was able to visit and explore many states during that time. Once
she retired from nursing she worked for The Friends of Harbor Town in Vermillion, OH
and volunteered her time to play Mrs. Claus in the town square for Christmas. She also
found the time to be a girl scout leader for her granddaughters. The kind of women who
would make even a stranger feel like family in minutes and radiated love. One who
even two weeks before she was called home was still going on her weekly adventures
with her daughters.
She is survived by daughter, Sue Bauder of Wellington, OH, son William (Rusty)
Thompson of Heltonville, IN, daughter, Kay Mccartney of Elyria, OH, daughter, Gina
Hawkins of Jeromesville, OH, step daughter, Rebecca (David) Jones of Wellington, OH,
22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and a
brother, Edward Reising.
Roze was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen, her husband, Elmer
Balog, her son, Charles Thompson, brother, Larry Reising, sister, Lore Davies, son-in-
laws, Jack Hawkins Sr. and Richard Bauder Sr. and daughter-in-law, Nancy Thompson.
Graveside services will be heald at 2:00 PM, Saturday October 23, 2021 at the
Jeromesville Cemetery with Sue Bauder officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
