Ronald "Dean" Goodwill Obituary

Ronald “Dean” Goodwill, beloved husband, dad, granddad and friend, went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026. He passed away at home surrounded by his family after a brief but fierce battle with cancer.

Dean was born in Cambridge, Ohio and raised in Mifflin, Ohio. He was the son of Gilbert W. and Shirley (Cozzens) Goodwill who preceded him in death. He joined in marriage with his wife Robin on May 26, 1990. Their love was the kind that is built over years of shared laughter, weathered storms, and a determination to mean what they said when they said “I do”. Together they raised two amazing sons, Jon and Josh, who were a great source of pride for Dean.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator with the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18 in 2017. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for and protecting his family. Dean was well respected for his work ethic and his skill at operating just about any piece of equipment.

Dean was committed to his family and to his friends, never turning away anyone who needed help. He was a generous man whose word was his bond and he could be counted on to show up for whatever was needed.

His greatest joys were his grandchildren (Connor, Jonathan, Ellee, Jaxon, Rhett, Emmy, and Josie). He loved to operate “Grandpa’s Bus Route”, to attend the kids sporting events, even just getting down on the floor and playing with them. Along with being the fun grandpa with the candy and balloons, he offered advice with wit and humor. He tried his best to make sure they all knew they were precious gifts to him.

Dean is survived by his wife Robin, his sons Jon (Randi) Bowman, Josh (Abbi) Bowman, 7 grandchildren, his sister, Janet (Toby) Britton, his brother Donald (Vicki) Goodwill and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert E. and Richard A. Goodwill.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Ashland Brethren in Christ Church where Dean attended.
