Richard James Scott Obituary

Richard James “Dick” Scott, 94, of Ashland died on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, at OhioHealth


Mansfield Hospital. He was born February 20, 1930, in Richland County, the son of Kohler & Ruth


(nee Wolfe) Scott. On November 10, 1949, he married Carol Suzanne “Suzie” Scott (nee McFadden).


From a young age he started working with his dad in construction & roofing. This led to co-owning his


own business, Scott’s & LaRue Roofing, with his good friend Raymond LaRue. The business continues


to serve Ashland County by fourth & fifth generation Scotts. He was a member of the First Christian


Church Disciples of Christ in Ashland where he served as a deacon. In 1949, he graduated from


Ashland High School. Throughout school he was a member of the baseball and football teams; his


senior year he was named captain and voted Mr. Football. After high school, he continued to coach


baseball and attend numerous sporting events of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.


He is survived by two sons, Jim (Dana) Scott and Joe (Cindy) Scott, of Ashland; three daughters,


Sharon (Dave) Strine of Ashland, Kathleen (Doug) Brockway of Ashland, and Leigh Anne (Rick)


Holmes of Nankin; 12 grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Culler, Kevin (Lauren) Scott, Craig Scott (Holly


Smith), Nicholas (Melissa) Brockway, Erin Brockway (Aaron Gulan), Ryan (Sarah) Brockway, Hannah


Walker, Erik (Megan) Scott, Michelle (Bill) Bass, Ashley (Matt) Strouse, Adam Holmes, and Allison


(Alex) Burgess; two step grandchildren, Ryan (Rebecca) Seidner and Jason (Kristine) Seidner; 15


great-grandchildren, Kohler Scott, Mia Scott, Ada Scott, Jackson Brockway, Madyson Brockway,


Presley Brockway, Evelyn Brockway, Leo Brockway, Aubrey Strouse, Clara Strouse, Rhett Strouse,


Mason Bigelow, Emma Walker, Vera Grace Bass, and Ayla Leigh Scott; three step-great-grandchildren,


Alex Seidner, Zachary Seidner, and Nathan Seidner; a sister RuthAnn Rogers, and a sister-in-law,


Marilyn Fortney. He was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Suzie; two brothers, Bob &


Donald; four sisters, Hazel Hyatt, Mary Wirts, Dorothy Lewis, and Suzie Snow.


A service will be held Tuesday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Fickes Funeral Home, Jeromesville with


Rich Pate & Doug Fitch officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.


Friends may call 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Fickes Funeral Home,
