Richard E. Goard went home to be with his Lord and Savior, after fighting a long illness on October
29, 2023 at Lutheran Village in Ashland at the age of 87. He was born in Ashland at the Goard family
farm on October 28, 1936. Where his dad was born. Richard was a 1956 graduate of Hayesville High
School. He was in the Army Reserve for 7 years.
Richard is survived by his sisters, Ada Sue (Gerald) Workman of Hayesville, Janet Rush of Florida,
Diana (Lloy) Funk of Ashland, and Lucinda (Larry) Biddinger of New London. He was “Uncle Dick
or more like Grandpa” to nieces, Teresa Barre, Tina (Joe) Gerlak, Shellie Daniels, Julie (Ben) Shrider
and Tara Goard, nephews, Tritain (Kim) Biddinger, Tyler (Chasity) Biddinger and Ryan (Meggie)
Funk, 10 great nieces, 15 great nephews, 4 great great nieces, and 4 great great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Eugene Goard and Oda Garn Goard, sister, Carol Jean
Goard, brother, Jimmy Dean Goard, great nephews, Troy Biddinger, Shawn Barre and Brandon Shrider.
Richard loved his family, cousins and friends. He loved to play euchre with his buddies, Leo and
Gary Sparr and Kenny Long. Junior Walton took him to the Ashland County Fair this year. He loved
the Ohio State Fair also. Richard loved his family showing his Polled Herefords at the fair. He worked
for Boyd Brothers Transport, hauling cattle to Cleveland in an international K89 straight truck. He
drove a grader for a township in Ashland, working through the nights plowing roads. Then he worked
for Don Harpster hauling livestock and buying at the sales. Richard loved farming for Don Harpster,
Jim Rodgers and Don Young. Gordy loved working at CRW frieght, loved his buddies there and
especially driving CRW Semi.
Memorial services will be 12:00-Noon on Saturday November 11, 2023 at Fickes Funeral Home in
Jeromesville with Pastor Doug Lang from Alliance Church of New London officiating. Friend may
call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
He will be laid to rest in Vermillion Cemetery in Hayesville. Lunch will be at the Jeromesville
Methodist Church, 40 East North Street.
