Pauline Virginia (Funk) Sloan

Pauline Virginia (Funk) Sloan (Polly) died Friday August 26, 2022 at the home of her

granddaughter Brandy after a period of declining health. She was born on February 24,

1930 to Paul and Marcia (Foss) Funk. She married John J. Sloan on November 24, 1950

and the two shared a birthday along with their granddaughter Brandy.

Polly was a graduate of Chester High School and had worked at Cresco Manufacturing and Premium

Building Products but most know her from the campgrounds that she, John and son Mike built and

operated as Sloan’s Hickory Lake starting in 1969. Many families cherish the memories from summers

spent there and it is still in operation. Polly loved to cook and spending time with her family was her

biggest pleasure. She was a great listener and knew many “secrets”.  She was a faithful member of St

Peter Lutheran Church in New Pittsburg.

She is survived by her son Michael (Donna) of Jeromesville, daughters Nancy Hider of Wooster and

Molly (Rob) Hastings of West Salem. Grandchildren Brandy (Jim) Ramsey, Terra Hider, Chad

(Brooke) Hider, Matt (Angela) Sloan, Mark (Erin) Siders, Jillian (Kevin) Siedlecki, Brice (Janelle)

Hastings and Addie (Adam) Krueger. She had 16 great-grandchildren and 2 more expected. Also 2

sisters, Shirley Gilbert and Susan Selvage.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 2012, her parents, brothers Marshall, Wayne and

Larry Funk and sisters Vera Miller and Maxine Hinton. Services will be held at St Peter Lutheran

Church in New Pittsburg on Friday September 2 at 11:00 am with Rev. Stephanie Woods officiating.

Calling hours will be held at Fickes Funeral Home, Jeromesville on Thursday September 1 from 6:00

to 8:00pm and 1 hour prior to service.
