Marilyn Ann (Shearer) Hodge Obituary

Marilyn Ann Hodge, age 92, of Shreve passed away February 9, 2023 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster


surrounded by family. Marilyn was born Oct 30, 1930 in Ashland to Karl F. Shearer and Anne


(Osmonson) Shearer. Marilyn graduated from Lakeville High School and Wooster Business College.


She married the late Richard C. Hodge, February 17, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church in McZena. She


met Richard at a square dance where he was the caller. They were married 69 years and raised 4


children on the farm; Paul (Sona) Hodge of Shreve, Ann (Jim) Obrecht of Shreve, Carolyn (Clyde)


Cramer of Columbus, and Mary Beth (Dan) Pavuk of Perrysburg, all surviving. Marilyn’s devotion was


to her family and church. She loved to sing and played the accordion. She was a member of St. John


Lutheran Church, McZena, participating in the women’s organization, teaching Sunday School and


Bible School. Mom was a 4-H advisor and avid sewer making dresses for her daughters. Baking was


her forte, and her homemade angel food cakes and chocolate chip cookies were requested at


community gatherings. Following her children and grandchildren’s activities kept her busy. You could


often find Marilyn and Richard at Triway Basketball games. An avid reader, Marilyn was a regular at


the Shreve Library every Friday. During the last few of years of her life she enjoyed the fellowship at


Fairview United Methodist Church. Marilyn worked in the offices at Regal Ware in Wooster. She


worked in the financial offices at Kettering Hospital in Loudonville and Pomerene Hospital in


Millersburg. Besides her children, Marilyn is survived by her grandchildren Marci (Jerry) Gibbon,


Audrey (Brent) Repp, Ben (Robyn) Hodge, Elizabeth (Kyle) Hulewat, Katie (Doug) Foxx, David


(Pansy) Obrecht, Nathan Pavuk, and Sarah Pavuk. Ten great-grandchildren and brothers Joe (Gayle)


Shearer and Mike Shriver are also surviving. The late Mildred Shearer, was her loving step-mother.


Calling hours will be at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville on Monday, February 13 from 5:00-7:00


p.m. or 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.


The funeral will be Tuesday Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 46 Ashland Co. Road
