Lois LaVerne Flickinger, 96 of Hayesville passed away peacefully January 29, 2021 surrounded by her family at home. She was born May 13, 1924 in Splashdam, Virginia to Curtis and Euva (Beavers) Sykes.
On March 7, 1953 she married her husband of 64 years, Kenneth Flickinger. Her and Kenny made homes in Richland and Ashland County. She was a homemaker who raised their three children while helping run the family farm. Lois loved to stay busy and was known for not being able to sit still for long. She was a wonderful cook who insisted on feeding anyone who came to her home.
Upon her husband's retirement the couple moved to Sebastian, Florida where they lived for 32 years. She took up many interests which included fishing, gardening, canning, playing cards, bingo and her favorite pastime, shuffleboard in which she achieved pro status.
After her husband's death in 2017 Lois coped by finding a love of dance. She devoted a couple hours a day to dancing and would start dancing anywhere she heard music. She became a big hit at farmer's markets, festivals and weddings. Even making the paper a couple times.
When Lois was no longer able to live alone, she moved back to Ohio to live with her youngest daughter. She continued to find joy in dancing daily as well as helping babysit her youngest great grandson.
Lois will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes, her three children, Kim (Sam) Adams of Hayesville, Kay (Jim) Lindsey of Hayesville and Ken (Amy) Flickinger of Fort Pierce, Florida; eight grandchildren, Christina Lynn (Matt) Tuttle-Stephens, J.J. (Jessica) Tuttle, Zane Clegg, Wade Clegg, Seth (Jessi) Adams, Shannon (Matt) Miller, Jaime Simmons and Kassie Ashburn; and twelve great grandchildren, Kaden, Cameron, Mikayla, Brycen, Isabella, Riley, Paisley, Wren, Ellie, Hanna, Shaw and Tripp. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Lois was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Willard Sykes and Harry Sykes and one sister Ruth Smith.
There will be no services at this time. A private ceremony will be held in Florida to spread the ashes of Lois and her late husband Kenny, together per their wishes. Family and friends will be invited to a get together later in the year on what would have been her 97th birthday to celebrate her life.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Pathways Hospice for all their help caring for Lois over the last year.
Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville assisted the family with arrangements.
