Larry Titus Obituary

On Tuesday, August 25, Larry Kenneth Titus, Sr. Finished his struggle here on Earth in his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on May 8, 1943, to Sylvia (Carder) and Melvin Titus in Kincheloe, West Virginia.
At ten months old, he lost his hearing after a bout with pertussis.  When he became school age, he moved from his family and home to attend Romney School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney, WV.  He participated in basketball, football, gymnastics, and learned to communicate using sign language.  In high school, he was an apprentice in the print shop.
Shortly after graduating, he moved to Ohio for job opportunities.  He was part of a construction team involved in erecting one of the buildings at Ashland University.  Following that he worked at Philway.  However, he was most proud of his work as a tool and die operator at Richland Screw Machine.  He spent many years there until his snowmobile accident in 1980 which left him a quadriplegic.  He spent the rest of his life making adaptations to maintain independence regardless of his severe disability.  He was successful at this for nearly forty years.  He is known for his woodworking skills, immersion in the deaf community both in Ohio and West Virginia.  Most of all, he is known for his endurance, strength, and determination.
He lived in Jeromesville for 47 years.  He married his love, Katherine Olive Harris on March 5, 1965.  She preceded him in death in 2011.  He has three surviving children: Larry (Kama) Titus, Jr of Norwalk, Dee Adams of Ashland, and (Earl) Tina Bachmann of Loudonville.   He is the grandfather of nine: Chris (Megan), Mckenzie, and Justin Titus; Logan and Haley Adams; and Remington, Collin, Maxwell, and Olivia Bachmann; and two great-grandchildren Aubree and Colton Titus.  He is survived by his brother William (Denise) Titus of Carrollton, and sisters (Charlie) Ruby Dennison of Jane Lew, WV, (Earl) Emma Lou Jefferies of Weston, (Rick) Carol Logan of New Philadelphia, and Theresa Titus of Urichsville.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Basil, Arnett, and Frank Titus; and his sister Mary Ellen Hefner. While Mr. Titus has gone on to gain his wings, he has also gained new legs to dance with and new ears to hear the music that he loved.  His remains will be returned to West Virginia where his wife and mother are.  A private graveside service will be held there.
