Kay Humrichouser

On November 10, 2020, Kay Humrichouser, loving wife, mother, and grandmother went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Kay was born March 30, 1941 to Mabel Witmer Shinabarker and Carl Shinabarker in Ashland, Ohio. On September 20, 1959 she married the love of her life, Richard F. “Jake” Humrichouser. Together they had three children, Melanie Anne (Mary Williams) Humrichouser, Matthew Richard (Tonya) Humrichouser, and Melissa Joyce Itschner.

Kay was a 1959 graduate of Ashland High School and retired from the Ashland County Auditor’s Office in 2006. She was a devout Christian and 60 year member of Rowsburg Lutheran Church, serving as editor of the church’s newsletter for 40 years. Kay had a passion for cooking and hosted “Thursday night dinners” at her house beginning in 1998. These dinners became a tradition for she and her family, and over the years included many guests, including those from states away.

Kay is survived by her children, along with grandchildren Leanne (Benjamin) Wheeler of Ashland, Richard “Ricky” Itschner of Ashland and Madelynn “Maddie” Humrichouser of Rowsburg, and cousin Brenda Whitten of Mt. Carmel, TN, whom she helped raise; siblings Sandra Mosser (Golden, CO) and Ronald Shinabarker (Ruth) (Bellville, OH), sister-in-law Rebecca Humrichouser (Curt) of Ashland, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, siblings Patirica Todd and Shirley Regan; daughter-in-law Tonya Humrichouser, and an infant daughter.

Remembered for her always buzzing kitchen and kind heart, Kay will be missed by all who knew her. Services will be held at Rowsburg Lutheran Church Saturday, November 21 at 1pm for immediate family only. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ashland Christian Health Center, 380 E 4th St., Ashland, OH.
