Johnnie Dale Shanklin, 67 of Ashland passed away peacefully Tuesday May 25th, following injuries
sustained from a fall surrounded by his family. He was born April 17, 1954 in Dalton in the son of
Floyd and Arlene McCleland Shanklin. He was a 1973 graduate of Dalton High School, was a truck
driver and most recently had worked at the Kroc Center in Ashland.
Johnnie was an avid corvette enthusiast and a member of the Mid Ohio Corvette Club. He enjoyed all
car shows and was especially fond of his 1961 corvette, that he showed for 50 years. He loved
spending time with family and friends, and will be remembered for his loving smile and ornery wink.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Smith Shanklin, to whom he was married August 11, 2012, two sons,
Phillip (Carla) Koons of Polk and Todd Koons of Pittsburgh, PA, four grandchildren, Makenna
Huffman, Bryan Huffman, Naomi Koons and Preston Koons, a sister, Betty Campbell of West
Lebonon, a brother, George (Janice) Shanklin of Brewster and life long friends, George and Penny
Falb.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 11:00 AM Friday May 28, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Ashland with
Pastor Allan R. Bevere officiating. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.
Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville assisted the family with arrangements.
