Jerry Alan Chio

Jerry Alan Chio, 80, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Wooster Community Hospital.

Jerry was born on May 16, 1944, to Stanley W. and Dorothy Butler Chio in Toledo, Ohio. The family later moved to Wayne County, where Jerry graduated from Northwestern High School in 1962. He proudly served as a U.S. National Guardsman.

A skilled and dedicated carpenter, Jerry was a third-generation construction professional. He served as the president of Nu Way Housing/Construction before transitioning to a role as a building inspector for Wayne County. He then moved to Williamsburg, VA, to continue his career in building inspection. After retiring, Jerry relocated to West Union, West Virginia, where he became an active member of the Red Oak Grove Church. Even in retirement, he continued working in his trade, remodeling his home alongside his wife, Sue, and contributing at the local ACE hardware store.

Jerry was well-known for his craftsmanship. Whether it was home improvements for his family or projects of his own, his work was always solid and built to last, often marked by the “number of nails.” His family and friends knew that if Jerry built something, it was built to endure. Though he continued to work full-time well into his 80s, his dedication to his craft never waned. Tragically, Jerry passed away while doing what he loved—working. Even at the time of his passing, Jerry continued to give through his decision to be an organ donor, helping countless individuals in need.

Jerry’s time in Ohio with his family was brief, but they feel blessed for the moments they had together. He is survived by his three children from his first marriage: Steve (Tracy) Chio of Wooster, Lisa (Kevin) Stoner of Loudonville, and Samantha (Richard) Cates of Apple Creek. He was also deeply loved by his second wife, Susan Patterson Chio, whom he married on September 21, 1998. Together, they shared a family that included Adam Rogers of Smithville and Jeremiah (Nicholle) Chio of Salem, West Virginia. Jerry was also the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his brother, Lanny (Lynn) Chio of North Carolina, and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Chio.

In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
