James (Jim) L. Norris, 83, passed away on Sunday September 10th, at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on November 4th, 1939 to John P and Grace L Norris of Polk. Jim graduated from Polk High School in 1958.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force reporting for active duty October 1st, 1961 with the Title of Auto Service Mechanic.
He married Susan Humrichouser on April 21st, 1962. They have 2 children, Holly (Norris) of Ashland, Shelley (Norris) of Ashland, a grand-daughter, Kennedi (Austin) Hawksworth of Ashland, and a great grandson Beckley James (Hawksworth). He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Pat Kopp Jr. of Dayton and Anne Humrichouser of Ashland.
Jim’s former employment included Frito Lay, FW Vending, Winbigler Lumber Company, and The Good Shepherd Home. After retiring, he worked for the Home Depot as a customer service representative and most recently was a driver for the Ashland County Council on Aging.
Jim was a life member, past trustee and commander of Harry Higgins Post 88 of the American Legion, as well as a life member of Elks Lodge #1360. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as a volunteer for Samaritan Hospital for many years.
Jim loved wood working, and building furniture and keep sakes for his family. He also enjoyed, gardening, golfing, fishing, and traveling to gaming sites.
What Jim loved the most about life was making people laugh and smile. He wanted everyone to have fun. He always had a joke or story to share. His distinctive laugh and sense of humor will be deeply missed.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, a sister Sandra Owens of Mansfield, and his brothers-in-law Mike Humrichouser and Robert Kopp Jr.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life on Saturday October 7th - from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at the Harry Higgins Post 88 American Legion located on Claremont Avenue in Ashland Ohio.
