Evelyn Atterholt Obituary

Evelyn Joan (Hartwig) Atterholt, 91 years old, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Evelyn was born April 5, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to Carl and Martha (Koehler) Hartwig. She met her future husband in October 1947 on the day her family moved to Mohicanville, Ohio. Stanton and Evelyn were married June 12, 1949 and lived on the Atterholt family farm north of Mohicanville. In 1956 they bought their own farm in Lake Township. Stanton and Evelyn farmed here until 2009 when they sold the farm to their grandsons, Mike and Aaron. Stanton also worked at FE Meyers Pumps and Hydromatic Pumps. Evelyn was a homemaker and mother until 1969 when she started working outside the home at Dairy Dolly, Hoover’s Kitchen, and Home Hardware. She is survived by five children: Carol (Gary) Wilson, Don (Nancy) Atterholt, Daryl (Kathy) Atterholt, of Loudonville, Sue (Jim) Shellhaas of Solon, and Duane (Kim) Atterholt of Mansfield. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, one step-grandchild, 13 great grandchildren, and one step-great grandchild. Grandchildren are Ryan (Renee) and Steve Twining, Aaron (Mandy), Mike (Mandy), Nathan (Amy), Nick (Megan), Mekenna, Brynlee, and Marisah Atterholt, Brian Shellhaas, Alison (Brendan) Haggerty, and Julie (Chris) Stephens. Greatgrandchildren-Shane, Russell, Lillian, Nelle, Riley, Reed, Roland Twining, Maci, Kalli, Claire, Natalie, Tyler, and Rhett Atterholt, and Felicia Wilson. Evelyn is also survived by her dear sister, Margarete Crumlick and brother-in-law Paul Atterholt.

She was preceded in death on January 15, 2016 by her beloved husband, Stanton; her sister Eleanore Stitzlein, sisters-in-law Pauline, Kathy, Delores, Kay and Joy Atterholt, and Lillian Raubenolt; brothers-in-law Clayton and Dwight Atterholt and Bill Raubenolt; and nephew Ben Atterholt and niece Rhonda Arnold.

After retiring, Evelyn enjoyed babysitting, music, playing cards (especially canasta), and traveling. She visited most of the 50 states (include Alaska and Hawaii), two trips to Europe (one with her mother-in-law, Golda and one with her sister Margarete and cousins Inge and Wolf Knappe). The trip to Israel was a highlight of her life. Evelyn enjoyed volunteering in places such as Samaritan Hospital, Cub Scout Den Mother, little league baseball officer, and “Ohio Reads” tutor at Hayesville Elementary. She also was very active in her church,

Mohicanville Community Church, where she sang in the choir 67 years and taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She also served on the missions board many years, member of ladies guild, bible study, taught VBS, and served on many committees.

Calling hours will be Thursday April 14, 6-8 p.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville and 1 hour preceeding the service. Service at 11:00 on Friday April 15 at Mohicanville Community Church, 343 St. Rt. 95, Loudonville OH, 44842. Burial will be at Pioneer Cemetery in Lake Township. Memorial gifts may be given to Mohicanville Community Church.
