Duane Raymond Smeltzer

Duane Raymond Smeltzer, 77 of Ashland passed away Saturday November 18, 2023 at OhioHealth

Mansfield Hospital. He was born August 11, 1946 in Ashland the son of Jacob Ray and Edna Mae (Stelzer)

Smeltzer. He was a 1964 graduate of Ashland High School and served in the Armyduring the Vietnam War and

retired from the 179th Air National Guard in 2003. He was a member of theAmerican Legion Harry Higgins Post 88

and the VFW. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Stuart) Smeltzer, to whom he was married September 28, 1969, two sons, Jason

(Jennifer) Smeltzer of Hayesville and Scott Smeltzer, a daughter, Julia

Miller, 2 grandchildren, Katelynn and Preston Smeltzer, and two sisters, Beverly Scott of Indiana and Marlene

Armstrong of Hayesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He enjoyed farming his entire life on his family farm and at his son, Jason’s, after he sold the farm. He was loved

and will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda, son, Jason, daughter-in-law, Jennifer and grandchildren, Katelynn and

Preston.

Private family services will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hayesville-Vermillion Volunteer Fire Department.

Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville assisted the family with arrangements.
