Clifford Leroy Martin

Clifford Leroy Martin, 81 of Ashland passed away Monday November 11, 2019 at Crystal Care in
Ashland. He was born August 19, 1938 in Holmesville the son of Russell Guy and Viola M. Gambier
Martin. He was a 1956 graduate of Ashland High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Cliff was a
diesel truck mechanic for Abers and farmed with his sons Rick and Steve, for 20 years. He was a member of the
Trinity United Methodist Church and was the sexton for Trinity Cemetery for more than 30 years. Cliff
enjoyed rebuilding tractors and was a member of the Ashland County Yesteryear Club.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Schoonover Martin, to whom he was married February 26, 1960,
two sons, Richard (Betty Smith) Martin of Ashland, Steven (Brandy) Martin of Polk, 8 grandchildren,
Meghan (Stephen) Self of Belpre, Amanda Martin of Cleveland Heights, Morgan (Frank) Bertsch of
Shaker Heights, Kendra (Brock Daugherty) Martin of Howard, Dakota (Kaley Hawkins) Martin of
Ashland, Troy Martin of Polk, Cullen Martin of Cutler and Dallas Martin of Polk, 8 great granchildren,
4 brothers, Dale Smithhisler, Howard Smithhisler, Roger Smithhisler and Ronnie Smithhisler, and two
sisters, Carol Griffeth and June Wilcox.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and a brother.
Services will be 2:00 PM Friday November 15, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastors
Shaun Green and Jennifer Darling-Mellott officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday November 14, 2019 from 5-8 pm at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville.
