Cassandra "Sandy" B. Bartter died peacefully at her home near Jeromesville on January 24, 2021.
Born August 22, 1956 in Waterbury, CT to Malcolm and Louise Burr, Sandy had made the Jeromesville area home. She married Wayne Bartter on March 24, 2007.
A joyful, brave and loving woman of strong faith, Sandy was active in her church. She loved traveling with her husband and best friend Wayne. Their adventures took them on too many trips to count, including Norway, a cruise, and numerous national parks where they enjoyed watching bald eagles.
Sandy never met a stranger, and could strike up a meaningful conversation with people of all ages while walking on the beach or in the woods bird watching. Sandy enjoyed the great outdoors, hiking, canoeing, star gazing, walking hand-in-hand with Wayne.
Life at home was just as sweet, where Sandy was Nana to her beloved grandchildren. She lit up when they visited, her joy shining through in a constant smile, making each feel they were the most important person in the world. She enjoyed making meals for others and was known for her mini banana muffins she baked often for her grandchildren.
She also loved caring for and sharing her "mini zoo" of animals. When not outdoors, Sandy could be found in her kitchen while still keeping an eye on her donkeys, birds and other animals through the big bay window which overlooked her favorite place on the farm.
A big milkweed patch in the back hay field, discovered and protected many years ago by Sandy, was a favorite spot for her, as she often searched for chrysalis and shared with her grandchildren and friends the transformation into butterflies.
She loved writing and receiving hand-written notes from friends and family.
Known as a wonderful teacher, after retirement Sandy enjoyed working at the Jeromesville Store, talking with and helping the local people, who often said she was a joy to talk with about anything. Sandy put others before herself, and shared the bounty of her many gardens over the years.
Summers were spent gardening, canning and enjoying adventures with her daughters, Jenny, Becky and Alex, whom she adored.
Sandy is survived by husband, Wayne, her mother Louise Burr; her children and grandchildren: Jenny and Cori Betson, Carsten and Olivia Betson; Becky and Brad Jones, Callie and Collin Jones; Alex and Joel Jarvis, Braylen Jarvis; Dave and Jody Bartter, Blayne and Brayden Bartter, along with many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by her daughter Jeanette Tilton, who died in early childhood, and her father, Malcolm Burr.
