Carol Gill Obituary

Carol Gill

11/07/1945 – 02/17/2022

Carol Sue Gill (née Kyser) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on February 17, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Ashland, Ohio on November 7, 1945, the youngest of four children, to the late Charles and Ruth Kyser.

Carol was raised on a farm in rural Jeromesville and lived most of her life in Ashland County, apart from four years spent in Leesburg, Virginia. She graduated from Jeromesville High School in 1963.

After high school, Carol took care of several nieces and nephews while also working an exciting weekend job at the Dragway 42 dragstrip, in West Salem, where she met many famous drivers, from all over the country, during the heyday of drag racing. She had a little-known talent of being able to correctly identify the make, model and year of any U.S. Automobile circa 1950’s through 1970’s.

On August 17, 1968, she married the love of her life, John Thomas Gill and they welcomed their first child, a son, on her birthday the following year, followed by a daughter two years later. She would not go back to work until both of her children were in school.

Carol had a passion for the elderly and built a very successful career as a private health caretaker. She never had to look for a job because her solid reputation as a highly capable practitioner, as well as a staunch advocate for her vulnerable patients, brought more work her way than she was able to accept. Over the years, numerous doctors, whom she encountered through her patients, asked her to provide care for their own parents.

Carol was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. A consummate chef, rarely following a recipe, she showered family and friends with affection through her delicious homecooked meals.  Her selfless compassion knew no limit as she loved her family fiercely and remained a loyal friend to so many. Unhesitatingly, she made many sacrifices to better the lives of those around her, not limited to providing care of her parents in their final years so they could remain in the comfort of their own home. She did the same for her mother-in-law and father-in-law through their time of need.

Carol touched the lives of many and left an indelible impression on all with whom she came in contact. She never met a stranger and was a natural encourager who had the ability to connect with people deeply, especially in their struggles. She was infinitely kind, endlessly tolerant and smiled with her whole face. She loved genuinely and gladly gave without expectation of anything in return. She had a soft spot for animals and never turned away a stray that unexpectedly arrived on her doorstep.

Carol’s faith was a grounding force throughout her life. She loved the Lord and relied on Him to get her through difficulties that blew her way. She was a life-long member of the Wooster Seventh-Day-Adventist church and adored her church family.

Carol was preceded in death by both parents and one sibling, Dean Kyser (Linda) of Ashland.

Carol is survived by her husband of over 53 years, John Thomas Gill. In addition, she is survived by her son, John Edward Gill of Jeromesville, OH, daughter, Brenda Sue Gill of Leesburg, VA, sister, Lois Wolff of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, brother, Oren Kyser (Vicki) of Ashland, OH, brother-in-law, Jim Gill (Shonette) of Dublin, OH and a host of nieces and nephews.

Our family is deeply grateful to the dedicated Ohio Health Hospice staff who guided us as we cared for her during her last weeks.

Carol was the essence of all that is bright and good in this world and will be missed dearly by all that knew her. Her bright light is already missed but she will never be forgotten as she lives on in the hearts of her family and countless friends. The family will receive guests at 11:00AM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Fickes Funeral Home, 84 North High Street in Jeromesville, Ohio.
