Obituary

William L. Garn, 83 of Jeromesville passed away Thursday October 8, 2026. He was born February 21, 1943 in Ashland the son of Floyd and Dorothy Kaylor Garn. He grew up on the family farm and continued farming into his adult life. He graduated from Jeromesville High School in 1962. Bill moved from farming working for Columbia Gas and later into being a heavy equipment operator with Tri-Mor from where he retired. Following his retirement Bill began to fix lawn mowers or some piece of small equipment for a famliy member, friends or neighbors. After he mastered repairs he moved into refurbishing and restoring 15 John Deere and Wheel Horse lawn tractors. To his nieces and nephews he was always known as “If it needs fixed, call Uncle Bill, he can fix it” and he did.

Bill was an excellent wood worker. His house showcased the items he made from new kitchens cabinetry to grandfather clock, sewing station and a roll top desk. He enjoyed everything and every project he worked on. He was avid Cleveland Browns fan holding season tickets for several years in the Dawg Pound. There was nothing Bill couldn’t do. He was one of the first to step up if there was a neighbor, friend or church member in need. Bill would be there to do whatever was needed. He was a member of the Jeromesville Methodist Church for many many years. He served his Country as a member of the United States Army and had a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a 58 year life member of the American Legion Jerome Post 749. Bill had 40 years of service with the Jeromesville Fire Department with eleven of those years served as Fire Chief. He was also an informal member of the Jeromesville Market early morning coffee club.

In 1982 he married Patricia “Tootie” Hardy whom preceded him in death on January 9, 2022. They had been married for 39 years. They shared morning coffee at the kitchen table and had a pot on for anyone who stopped by. Bill was a man of few words, but you could count on what he said was from the heart and the truth. Bill is also preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Dorothy Garn and brother, Paul Garn. Bill lived his life with selflessness thinking of the well being of others over himself. In death he faced it with the same courage and strength while thinking only of others.

He is survived by two daugthers, Candi Heath and Jeri Ann Hites, sister Judy (David) Robson, brothers, Duane (Connie) Garn, Dale (Sharon) Garn, Bob (Bev) Garn and Larry Garn and his companion, Kinzie a yellow lab that was always at his side.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday October 16, 2026 at the Jeromesville Cemetery with Minister Matt Miller officiating.

A luncheon will follow the service at the Jeromesville Methodist Church.
