T.W. Smith, 93, of Jeromesville died Monday

March 4, 2013 at Hospice House in Ashland.  He was

born March 12, 1919 in Ashland Co. the son of Thurman

and Ethel Newman Smith.

He served in the U.S. Army from January 1941 to June 1945.

He was overseas 32 months during World War II, serving in

the European Theater from Casablanca to Berchtesgaden.

He was in the 3rd Infantry division, seventh Infantry Cottonbaler

regiment.  He received 10 battle stars, a Bronze Star with Clusters,

the Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal and the French

Croix de Guerre with palm.

He graduated from Ashland High School in 1937.  He also had

4 years of Agriculture on the farm training.  He was on the board

of directors of the Akron Milk Producers from 1957 to 1967,

on the board of directors of Landmark Inc. from 1981- 1988,

past president & vice president on Agrimark board for 25 years,

on the FHA board in Ashland Co. for 3 years, and was on

Ashland Co. ASCA county and community committee for 38

years.  T.W. was a farmer and member of the Trinity Lutheran

Church in Jeromesville all of his life, serving on council and other

committee's over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Keets Smith, to whom he

was married July 14, 1945, two daughters, Jane (Bruce) Burrey

of Colorado and Nancy Smith of New Rochelle, NY, a son,

James Smith of Jeromesville, 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter,

1 great granddaughter, 1 great grandson and 3 step great

grandchildren, and a sister, Carrie Brookover of Ashland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson,

Joshua Smith, a sister, Marcella Heifner and 2 brothers,

Virgil and Harold Smith.

Services will be 10:30 AM Friday March 8, 2013 at Jeromesville

Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jerry Rhea officiating.

Burial will be in Dickey Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by

Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call Thursday March 7, 2013 from 6-9 pm

at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville.
