Samuel W. "Jake" Jacobs died on Saturday, October 15, 2011
at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus after
a long and courageous battle with heart disease. His wife was
by his side.
Sam was born on November 5, 1941 in Baltic to Clarence and Betty
Jacobs. He married Vita (Kaye) Angel Jacobs on August 5, 1967.
Sam was a graduate of Baltic High School in 1959 and Ashland
College in 1964. He spent his teaching career at Hillsdale Middle
School in Jeromesville as a social studies teacher. He was a
much-loved teacher and coach. Jake remained good friends with
many former students and their parents for the rest of his life.
Sam loved his farm. He spent many long and happy hours tilling
the soil and planting his crops. He loved the smell of freshly-turned
soil and watching his grain crops grow.
Jake, also loved his German Shepherds with each one being more
special than the last.
Sam was a recipient of several coaching awards from his students
as well as being a Hillsdale Teacher of the Year. He was a long-time
member of the Hillsdale Teachers' Association, the Ohio Education
Association, the National Education Association, and ORTA. Sam,also,
was a member of the Ashland Elks Club and the Jeromesville Post 749
Sons of the American Legion.
Sam was preceded in death by his beloved mother, and his father and
mother-in-law, Harry and Helen Angel.
Survivors include his wife, Vita (Kaye), his father, Clarence Jacobs of Baltic,
brothers, Errol (Alice) Jacobs of Carrollton, Mitch (Renee) Jacobs of Newark,
and a sister, Jodi (John) Brucia of Marysville. He is also survived by a nephew,
Barry Jacobs of Dover, nieces, Kelley Jacobs of Massillon, Taylor Jacobs of
Newark and Samantha Jacobs.
In addition, Sam is survived by his in-law family; Wanda Fishel of New Philadelphia;
Bill and Ann Fender and David Sr. and Nancy Angel of Dundee, Owen Angel and
Rex and Pat Angel of Sugarcreek. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Following Sam's wishes, his body was cremated. Services for him include calling
hours at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from
5-8 pm. Interment will be on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM for family
and friends at a graveside remembrance service at Ridgecrest Memory Garden at
1926 Saltwell Rd. NW, Dover, OH with a luncheon following at the Dundee Church
of God on State Route 516 in Dundee. Pastor Dixie Hendricks will be officiating.

Sam's family wishes to express a heart felt thank you to the staff at Autumnwood
Nursing and Rehab Center in Rittman with a special thank you to PT's Hal and

Joy and Charlene Moyer, NP. We wish to especially thank our dear friend, Carrie
Maun-Smith for being our "life line" during the months that Sam was in the hospital
in Columbus over the past year.
