Russell Jay Hachtel, 79, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Hospice
House. He was born December 10, 1935, in Dundee, OH, the son of Frank and Edna Minard
Hachtel. He was a Tool and Die Maker for F.E. Myers and had worked as a Mechanic for
Lou Fritz Buick/Cadillac. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where
he was very active on many committees. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving on Vashon
Island, WA, as part of the Nike Missile Battalion. Russell was a member of the Ashland
Model Railroad Club and an avid traveler, having visited all 50 states, Mexico, Canada
and France.
Mr. Hachtel was an avid gardener, woodworker and fan of auto racing.
He is survived by his wife, Judy C. Smetzer Hachtel, to whom he was married December 29,
1968, two daughters, Cindy Hachtel of Milwaukie, Oregon, and Linda (Christopher) Regan
of Mansfield, Massachusetts, a son, Larry Hachtel of Ashland, two sisters, Mary Kay (Robert)
Norris of Waldo, OH and Carol (Terry) Moore of Bolivar, OH, and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday February 28, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church
with Pastor Chris Thomas officiating and Pastor Shaun Green assisting. Burial will be in
Trinity Cemetery where the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
A meal will immediately follow the service at the church.
Friends may call Friday February 27, 2015, from 3-7 pm at Fickes Funeral Home in
Jeromesville.

Route 89 Ashland, OH 44805-9766, or to Ashland Co. Cancer Association 380 E. 4th Street
Ashland, OH 44805.
