Robert (Bob) Eugene Rowland, 74,of Jeromesville died Wednesday September 19, 2018 at Colonial Manor in Loudonville. He was born March 27, 1944 in Ashland, the son of Gerald and Mary Myers Rowland. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a very respected and trusted member of the community. Bob was a graduate of Jeromesville High School in 1962 and the Ohio State University in 1966. He was the Ashland Co. Football MVP in 1961, when he was a member of the mythical national champion six-man football team. Bob taught for 13 years at Waynedale High School, where he also established the cross country program and coached track. Bob was a sought after painting contractor who never had to advertise for his services. He painted for 51 years after working for his Grandpa Myers for 4 summers during high school and college. He was a member of the Ashland County Regional Planning Commission, a founding member of Ashland Co. Barns and Rural Heritage Society, a lifetime member of the Friends of Ohio Barns, a board member and inductee of the Ashland Co. Sports Hall of Fame, a life member of American Forestry and spearheaded fundraising for the Hillsdale High School all weather track.
He was a loving husband to his wife of 54 years, Nancy Rowland, a faithful father to his two children, Karen (Jim) Wood of Indianapolis and Don Rowland of Jeromesville, a respected brother to Kenneth (Lorie) Rowland and Darrel (Kristina) Rowland, and a much loved grandfather to Sarah (Jovanny) Velazquez, Daniel Wood, Anna Rowland and Josie Rowland.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 11:00 AM Monday September 24, 2018 at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with Chaplain Doug Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday September 23, 2018 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
