Obituary

Robert H. Ries, 86 of Jeromesville and formerly of Canal Fulton

passed away Sunday January 11, 2015 at Hospice House in Ashland.

He was born in Massillon, OH on June 20, 1928 to the late Harry and

Leolla (Hess) Ries.  He graduated from Canal Fulton High School in

1946 and educated himself further thru his love of reading

books and magazines.

He farmed with his brother Dick until serving in the Army

from 1950-1952.  He served at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky and

in Korea as a cook and mechanic.  He was in construction and worked

for Lockhart's in Akron.  He then started his own excavating company

and operated Ries Sand and Gravel.  He then relocated his business to

Jeromesville in 1972 where he also began farming again.

He belonged to American Legion Post 749 in Jeromesville and

was a charter member of VFW Post 9795 in Canal Fulton.  He also

belonged to the Huber Machinery Museum, Historical Construction

Equipment Association, and the NRA.  He is a member of Mohicanville

Community Church, having served as Deacon, Elder and President

Consistory as well as Superintendent of Sunday School and a teacher

for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Naomi (Baker) as well as

his daughter, Mary (Angel) Reyes-Gomez and son Bill (Kathleen) Ries,

both of Jeromesville; brother Dick Ries of Massillon; sister Betty (Tom)

McFarlane of Wooster; sister-in-law Marie Ries and nephews Mike (Ellen)

McFarlane of Jeromesville,Steve (Chris) Ries and Mark Ries of Canal

Fulton; nieces Chris McFarlane of Wooster and Beth McFarlane of New

York; granddaughter Amy Reyes-Gomez; grandsons James Reyes-Gomez

and Nathan, Kyle and Benjamin Ries all of Jeromesville.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Lois Ries, brother Tom Ries, and

close friend Mike Murphy as well as many Aunts, Uncles and friends.

Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday January 15, 2015 at Fickes Funeral Home

in Jeromesville with Pastor Greg Rowan officiating.  Burial will be in Jeromesville

Cemetery.  Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the

funeral home.
