Obituary

Rev. Roger Paul Jones formerly of

Jeromesville and Lutheran Village

in Ashland passed away Monday

March 16, 2015 at Hospice House at

the age of 93.


A loving husband, father of 5 children, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and son of the

late Harley Edward Jones and Gladys Elizabeth Cross Jones,left his place here on this earth

for Heaven.  He was born September 3, 1921 in Vermillion Twp.  In 1937 he joined the

Synagogue Church of God in Vermillion Twp. where he remained a life time member.  He

graduated from Jeromesville High School in 1940.  He attended Kent State University and

was ordained by the Ohio Conference of Churches of God.  He served as a Pastor at the

White Hall Church of God, the Reedsburg Church of God, and the Smithville Church

of God.  His desire was to Please God at all times.  He served in the U.S. Army in World War

II in the Pacific Theater.  He was a farmer, worked as a Carpenter, taught school at the

Pioneer Career and Technology Center, and was a substitute teacher at the Ashland Co.

West Holmes Joint Vocational School.

In 1943 he married Esther Ruth Garver Jones at the West Salem Methodist  Church.  She

preceded him in death after 51 years in 1994.  To this union five children were born, a son,

Richard and Jocelyn Jones of Ashland, a son, Donald and Debra of Wichita, Kansas,  a

daughter, Mary and Richard Foote of Hayesville, a son, James and Kathy of Loudonville

and a daughter Michele and Daniel Lavender of Naples, Florida, 14 grandchildren and

20 great grandchildren.

In 1995, he married Loretta  Yoder at the Church of God in Smithville, OH.  She preceded

him in death in 2002.

Roger had two brothers, Carl Eugene Jones of Dalton, Harold Edgar Jones, and a half brother,

Clifford Edgar Jones.  Harold and Clifford preceded him in death.

Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday March 21, 2015 at Grace Brethren Church in Ashland

with his grandsons, Greg and Nathaniel Foote officiating.  Burial will be in Vermillion

Cemetery where the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Full Military Rites.

Friends may call Friday March 20, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville

or one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
