R. Blair Kahl, 91, retired dairy and grain farmer passed away peacefully on March 4, 2017 at Lutheran Village following an extended illness.  Blair is survived by his wife of 70 years Phyllis (Long), son Douglas (Donna) of Berea, daughter Dawn of Ashland, three grandchildren, Shawn (Beth) of Upper Arlington, Rachael (Michael Miller) of Berea and Drew of Grandview Heights, and seven great grandchildren, Alexander (Upper Arlington), Abigale (Grandview Heights) and Evan, Jonah, Maegan, Teagan and Julian of Berea.
Blair was preceded in death by his parents John H. and Susie M. (Whisler) Kahl and a step-sister, Lela (Tedrow) Hazen (Roger) of Ashland.  He is survived by his younger brother, Victor E. (Marcella) of Hayesville, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Blair was a proud World War II Navy veteran and was emotionally struck when all World War II veterans in attendance received a standing ovation during the annual Veterans Day Recognition Program at his great grandsons' school, Hastings Middle School in Upper Arlington in 2013.  He also participated in a Hospice Veteran Pinning Ceremony and received a certificate and pin for service to his country.
Blair and Phyllis enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, Alaska and Great Britain.
The family will receive family and friends at 10:00 AM Saturday March 11, 2017 at Stone Lutheran Church, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.  The Ashland Co. Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
