Phyllis Jean Hinton, 82, of Wooster, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026, after an extended illness.

She was born on March 14, 1944, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to John and Leona Smith. Phyllis married Samuel G. Hinton on September 9, 1961 and they shared 63 years of marriage before Samuel's passing in May 2025.

Following her marriage, Phyllis earned her GED and devoted herself to both her family and her work. Over the years, she provided childcare for many families, worked for the former Gruter Foundation in New Pittsburg, and later operated a house-cleaning business. Ultimately, she dedicated herself fully to her role as a homemaker, creating a loving home for her family.

A devoted member of her community, Phyllis volunteered as an EMT with the New Pittsburg Fire Department for 25 years, providing compassionate care and assistance to those in need. Her willingness to serve reflected her lifelong dedication to helping others.

Known for her strong work ethic, generosity, and selflessness, Phyllis took great pride in her home and family. She found her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, cherishing every opportunity to support and celebrate their accomplishments. She was devoted to their lives and activities and was always their biggest supporter. She was a kind and selfless woman who always put the needs of others before her own.

She is survived by her sons, Jeff (Darlene) Hinton, Mark (Sabrina) Hinton, and Scott (Jenny) Hinton, all of Wooster; her grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Leiner, Todd (Moriah) Hinton, Kyle Hinton, Nick Hinton, Brooke (Jake) Godfrey, and Shelby Thorpe; six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Roger Smith.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ellen Fortune, Ruth Raynard, James Smith, Shirley Roesel, and Donald Smith.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25th, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville. Funeral service will follow immediately, with Pastor Von Miller officiating. Burial will take place at the New Pittsburg Cemetery.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to Rod Hart and Jen Kline for their friendship, compassion, and unwavering support during Phyllis's illness.
