Obituary

Mary Eileen McGovern, 88, of Jeromesville

passed December 6, 2012, at MedCentral Hospital

peacefully and surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on March 31, 1924, on her family

farm in Ashland County to Royd Glenn and Mary

Eliza Humm Smith.

She graduated from Jeromesville High School in 1942.  Her work

experiences were with the Ashland County Farm Bureau, Lumberman's

Mutual Insurance and Henderson, Harpster & Vanosdall Law Office.

She also enjoyed working the family dairy farm for over 20 years.

Mary married Carl William McGovern on May 13, 1957, at the

Mohicanville United Church of Christ.  They have two children,

Gale (Charles) Lenzo of Newcomerstown and Kent (Sheri)

McGovern of Jeromesville.  Her beloved grandchildren are

Jenna (Derek) Hickman, Jansen Lenzo, Kate McGovern

and Emily McGovern.

Mary lived in the Jeromesville area her entire life.  She enjoyed

flower and vegetable gardening, music-singing and playing the

piano and organ, traveling, and cooking and baking for family and

friends.  She also enjoyed her card and domino clubs, homemaker

clubs and events, and many church activities.

Mary loved life - living it to the fullest up to her final day on earth.

She loved her family and her many close friends and her relationships

with each one.  She spent time every day with her Bible and devotions

in order to continue to build on her strong faith in God - a faith that passed

down through her family and faith that she passed down to hers, as well.

Her grandchildren loved to play and cook with "Grandma Mac" and she

loved the time she spent with them.

Mary was an active member of the Mohicanville United Church of

Christ for over 70 years and the Jeromesville United Methodist

Church for the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl McGovern;

brothers, Guy, Karl and Dale Smith and sisters-in-law, Selma Smith,

Lois Smith, Lucille Smith Banks, and Rebecca Smith.  Along with

many dear friends and family members.

Funeral arrangements will be with Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville.

Family and friends can call on Sunday, December 9, 2012, from 2-5 pm

at the funeral home.  The memorial service will be Monday, December 10,

2012, at 11:00 AM at the Jeromesville United Methodist Church with the

Rev. Debra Speer officiating.  Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to the
