Obituary

Mabel Marie Heifner Carpenter, 103 years old, passed away peacefully December 5,

2011 at Brookwood (Brethren Care) where she had resided the past four years.  A

lifelong resident of Ashland County, she lived most of her life in Hayesville with

summer weekends spent at their Lake Erie cottage.

Mabel was born on July 6, 1908 to Bia and Mary (McDanel) Heifner.   After her

mother died in 1911, Bia married Mabel Viola Vesper who help raise Mabel and

continued as her loving Mom until she passed away at the age of 107 in 1999.    Mabel

was married on May 6, 1932 to her beloved Arthur "Carp" Carpenter until his death

on March 30, 1988.

Named outstanding typist at Ashland High School, Mabel used these skills and her

outstanding math abilities as a 40 year employee of Hess & Clark working for J.L.

Clark and in the finance and accounting departments.    She thoroughly enjoyed

being with family and friends, fishing on Lake Erie, traveling, bowling, and attending

Hillsdale basketball games.   An avid Cleveland Indians fan, she was privileged to

have watched games in all three stadiums.  Actively in involved in the American

Legion Auxiliary, she was noted for serving as president and helping with meals.

Other memberships included the Sarah Copus Chapter of the DAR, the Olivesburg

United Methodist Church and the Ashland County Historical Society.

She is survived by her sister & brother-in-law Bonita and John McNaull and numerous

nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses

Milton (Marcella) Heifner,  Mildred (Kenny) Fish, Cleo (Pete) Feazel and Wilma (Joe)

Pinkley.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverand Gloria Loughman at the Fickes

Funeral Home in Jeromesville on Saturday December 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM with

visitation one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM.  Burial will follow immediately

at the Hayesville cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested for Hospice of North Central Ohio or the

Olivesburg United Methodist Church.
