With the winds beneath their wings and hand in hand with
her guardian angel, Kathryn M. Hawks, 100 years old, passed
into the great beyond,Paradise, Wednesday, January 14,
2015. She was the daughter of Thomas C. and Mary P.
Batchaler Stafford, born west of Hayesville, the youngest of
nine, on February 28, 1914.
On February 6, 1928 she was united in marriage to Cecil W.
Hawks who proceeded her in death on December 31, 1978.
From this union two children were born, Clayton Hawks of St. Petersburg, Florida
and Marlene McKinley Newlon of Hayesville. Kathryn had 5 grandchildren
Sally (Roger) Little, the Late David (Julie) Hawks, Kenneth McKinley II, Kib McKinley,
deceased and Kathryn (Dale) Runkle. She had 7 great grandchildren, Mark & Melissa
Little, Dewey (Carrie) Hawks, Daniel (Crystal) Hawks, Jennifer Hawks, Addie (Kyle) Shock
and Kib Runkle. She had 5 great great grandchildren, Ian, Angel, Dalton & Donovan Hawks
& Eva Little, along with 7 living nieces and nephews. Her children and grandchildren were
her whole existence.
Kathryn will always be remembered for her kindness, love in thought and deed and in
contentment knowing God was always near. She was a member of The Ashland United
Methodist Church. Her favorite song was How Great Tho Art. To her family, she will be
missed, but remembered as the Greatest Granny in the whole world. Because of Kathryn's
wishes, there will be no visitations or services. A private burial for family, officiated by Rev.
Paula Archdeacon, will be held in Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville. In Lieu of flowers, the
family suggests giving to the donors choice in her name. The family at this time would like
to acknowledge with many thanks to Fickes Funeral Home, Jeromesville and Hospice of
Ashland for assisting the family. Also, Brethren Care Nursing Home and resident friends,
for their most gracious loving care and companionship in the seven years she called it her
home, to the many faithful workers, who without acclamation, quietly go about doing and
giving a cup of cold water in his name.
