John J. Campbell, 92, of Jeromesville, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 at his residence, after complications from a fall.
The son of Perry Clifford and Mabel Hall McSherry Campbell, he was born July 15, 1924 in Nelsonville. He was the youngest of eight children, and is survived by his sister Dorothy McClain Sheaffer.
John graduated from Union Furnace High School. He then met the love of his life, Joan Savilla Francis, while roller-skating. They married on November 23, 1947 and moved to Ashland, Ohio. He was preceded by Joan on May 2, 2011.
John started with F.E. Myers Company in 1947, where he retired there after 40 years. He then worked at Ohio Electric Control from 1987 – 1999.
John was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, before moving to Jeromesville in 1979 and becoming a member of the Jeromesville United Methodist Church.
John was a man of many talents. He and his wife operated a teen dance in Polk and Ashland. In addition to building three houses, he also made a boat, built and flew three airplanes, and built a camping trailer. John loved and was so proud of his family. In the last few years, he held a reunion on his property where he invited the family to camp for the weekend.
He is survived by his daughters Connie Weitzel, Patti (Jack) Pennington, Terri (Steve) Glass, and Debbie Henthorn (Ryan Frank). He is also survived by his grandchildren Heidi (John) Cutlip, Robbie (Kate) Garn, Jodi (Kevin) Long, Jackie (Brent) Krichbaum, Tricia (Mike) Holtkamp, Heather (Mark) Vaught, Brandon (Julie) Wiser, Amy (Theo) Snow, Stephanie (Christian) Gaffney, Laurie (Brett) Dunbar, John (Liz) Rogers, Joey (Georgie) Rogers, Melissa (Zach) Phillimore, Haley and Alyssa Henthorn, and 32 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his dog Ginger, who loved him so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded by brothers Don, Marion, Clyde, Bob, Joe, sister Edith Howson, sons-in-law Lester Weitzel and Dave Henthorn, and great-grandson Nicholas Snow.
Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday November 15, 2016 at Jeromesville United Methodist Church with Pastor John Ballinger officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call Monday November 14, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville.
