James (Jim) Edward Smith, died Saturday October 6, 2018 at his
residence. He was born December 18, 1934 in Ripley, OH the son
of John H. and Leona Bradford Smith. Jim was employed by
Funk Bros. Tree Service, Ashland University and retired from
maintenance at Hillsdale High School. He loved his falcons and
would tell all that Hillsdale was good to him. He attended the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren.
Jim loved many things in life but most of all loved being with his family and would light up at the
sight of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Clifford Smith, to whom he was married January 23, 1954, a son,
Perry (Tenna) Smith of Loudonville, a daughter, Jeannie (Ron) Firestone of Mansfield, four
grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Firestone of Hilliard, Jillian (Zachary) Watson of Ashland, Monica (AJ)
DeJulis of Shreve and Brandon Smith of Boston, MA, two step-grandchildren, Shawna (Marlin) Scott
of Mansfield and Ian (Shelby) Simmons of Ashland, 8 great-grandchildren, Emryn, Kinsley and Reese
Firestone, Oliver, Virgina Rose and Milo Watson, Jayden Yurick and Gunner DeJulis, and 5 step great-
grandchildren, Halle and Rhys DeJulis and Steven, Brianna and Quitin Scott, a brother, Roger Smith of
Ashland and a sister, Phyllis Hinton of New Pittsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ruth Raynard Gilliland, Shirley Roesel and
Ellen (Sue) Fortune, a brother, Donald Smith and a great grandaughter, Vilolet Grace Watson.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday October 10, 2018 at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with
Pastor Jeff Messner officiating. Burial will be in Jeromesville Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday October 9, 2018 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
