Obituary

Hazel Ungerer Kamp, 93 of Wooster died Thursday August 16, 2012 at

West View Manor.  She was born July 22, 1919 in Wayne Co. the

daughter of Jacob Urban and Alice Houser Kaufman.

Hazel celebrated life in all its seasons and ages.  She enjoyed nature

and was connected to her farm, always planting a garden and doing truck

patch farming when her four children were growing up.  She grew

tomatoes still at 92.  Her flowers, plants and arrangements earned her

many ribbons at county fairs.  In fall she piled pumpkins on a wagon, selling

them from the Ungerer farm on U.S. 250.  She moved several times, but

as she said, "I've lived on Rt. 5 my entire life."

After Dale died, she became a shepherdess, raising and delivering lambs,

a difficult job, but she enjoyed "her sheepies."  She also took painting classes

and created striking oils of farm land, trees and buildings that she loved.

She was a 4-H advisor and sewed most of her daughters' clothing as well

as her own.  She was an officer in Eastern Star at Wooster and much involved

in activities at St. Peter Lutheran Church, including the women's group.  She

enjoyed presenting readings and skits for Mother-Daughter banquets and other

events.

Hazel was an avid reader, including the Bible.  The freedom of driving was one of

her pleasures and early on she was taking her children to school activities.  She

supported them in all their dreams.

In Hazel's world and in the Kaufman family holiday gatherings were important.

Hazel was a great pie maker and famous for her yeast rolls.  Christmas gatherings

were herspecialty with table favors she painted or designed.  For Halloween she made

witchcostumes and some grandchildren continue to enjoy that fall tradition.

She is survived by four children, Patricia (Leroy) Ungerer White of Jeromesville,

Jerry (M.Sue) Ungerer of Wooster, Janice (Jerry) Tipton of Jeromesville and Karen

(Jr.) Stough of Wooster, 7 grandchildren, Jennifer White of Tempe, AZ, Jeffrey

Ungerer of Ostrander, Andrew White of Ann Arbor, MI, Kimberly Miller of Wooster,

Christopher Ungerer of New York, NY, Brian Stough of Jeromesville, and Sara Royer

of Winona Lake, IN, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, Clair Kaufman of Jeromesville

and a sister, Susan Engel of Wooster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Ungerer on October 23, 1977,

three brothers, Dallas, Jacob Jr. and Gordon Kaufman and a sister, Wanda Fair.
