Gilbert Alvin Bishop, 89 of Ashland died Tuesday January 31, 2012

at Hospice House after a lingering illness.  He was born September 21,

1922 in Richland Co. the son of William and Emma Hannan Bishop.

He was a 1940 graduate of Hayesville High School and a U.S. Army

Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre.  Gilbert worked

for Mansfield Tire for 27 years, Tappan for 8 years, Home Hardware for

13 years and was an Ashland Co. Deputy Sheriff for 4 years.  Mr. Bishop

was a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Ashland.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah Doll Bishop, to whom he was married

December 24, 1947, a daughter, Carol (Dale) Claes of Marion, a son,

Joe (Kathryn) Bishop of Santa Cruz, CA, 5 grandsons, Randy (Joy) Claes,

Joel (Kelly) Claes, Philip Claes, Benjamin Bishop, and Jonathan Bishop,

a granddaughter, Abigail Bishop, and a sister, Mabel Berry of Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Miriam McFarland

and Mildred Schaub, and a brother, John Bishop.

Services will be 11:00 AM Friday February 3, 2012 at Grace Brethren

Church in Ashland, with Pastor Norm Johnson officiating.  Burial will be in

Ashland Co. Memorial Park where services will be conducted by the

Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.

from 6-8 pm at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville.
