E. Doyle
Hoverstock
Dec 13, 1950 — Jun 4, 2018
ASHLAND – E. Doyle Hoverstock went to be with his Lord on June 4 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded at his home by his loving family.
Doyle was born in Ashland County on Dec. 13, 1950, and was the only child of Kenneth and Helen Baughman Hoverstock. He attended Ashland High School and graduated from North Central Technical College with a degree in electrical engineering. Committed to hard work all of his life, he worked at Young's IGA, served as a rural postal carrier in Loudonville, Timken and A. L. Garber in Ashland and delivered fuel. He served with the 1467 Army National Guard. He operated a dairy farm for 21 years and later raised beef cows on his farms.
Along with growing corn and beans, he prided himself on making high quality, mixed alfalfa hay and selling it at area auctions. He was also known for his mechanical expertise and problem-solving.
He and his wife, Ellen Steigerwalt, were high school sweethearts and were married on Oct. 17, 1970. They built their first home together when they were 21 years old.
Doyle was a faithful member of the Methodist denomination and enjoyed spreading God's word through teaching Sunday School, preaching and ministering to others. His faith in Jesus Christ was an integral part of his life, and attending and participating in the life of his church, where he had served as a lay leader, were a priority for him.
Much of his spare time was spent cheering on his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. He was an avid reader, particularly of the Bible and history. He enjoyed his son's journey as a minister of the gospel and his daughter's athletic achievements in track.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law, Walter P. Steigerwalt, whose companionship he valued as they worked together in farming.
Doyle treasured his family and is survived by Ellen, his wife of 47 years; his children, Jan (Dr. Steven) Rogers, and Pastor Philip D. (Andrea) Hoverstock and grandchildren, Callie, 10; Kirsten, 9; and Camryn, 7, Hoverstock.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life at Faith United Methodist Church, 1574 Ohio 96, Ashland. Service of celebration will be this Thursday June 7, 2018 11:05 AM at Faith United Methodist Church (across from Crestview High School).
