Doris Mae Twining, 95 died Friday January 5, 2018 at McMullen
Assisted Living in Loudonville. Mrs. Twining was born January
27, 1922 in Clarksfield, OH to Carl and Florence (Houghtlen)
Burrows. She married Russell Twining on July 4, 1943 in New
London, OH. She worked as a telephone operator and as a nanny/housekeeper before marriage.
She spent most of her life dairy farming with Russell inHuntington and later in Hayesville-Loudonville
area. She was a former member of the Clarksfield and Huntington Granges. After retiring from
farming, Mrs. Twining worked for Hobby Nursery for a couple years and spent several years driving
for the Amish community, and making deliveries for a home health company. She and Russell also ran
a sugar shack for several years making maple syrup and many family memories. She enjoyed
gardening, raising chickens and sewing, especially quilting, and spent many happy days fishing on
Lake Erie.
She loved her family and was happiest when all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
were gathered together. She nurtured all her grandchildren and instilled in them a sense of work and
responsibility and to be able to accept people and things as they are. Her home was a favorite gathering
place for fun. Mrs. Twining was a member of the Mohicanville Community Church.
She is survived by children, Jean (Gail, deceased) Sheriff, Kathy (Ken) White, Dave (Ellen) Twining,
and Charles (Vicki) Twining, all of the Ashland-Loudonville area and brother-in-law, Phillip Rook of
Sullivan. She survived by 23 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Twining is preceded in death by husband, Russell Twining, daughter,
Debra Cleveland, sister, Louise Martin and half sister, Pat Hopkins. Calling hours will be Tuesday
January 9 , 2018 from 4-7 pm at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville. Services will be 11:00 AM
Wednesday January 10, 2018 at Mohicanville Community Church with Pastor Wayne Presnell
officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to McMullen Assisted Living Activity Fund 201 School Drive Loudonville, OH 44842 or the
Mohicanville Community Church 343 State Route 95 Loudonville, OH 44842.
