Don Weldon Weiler, 95, of Rowsburg, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday morning, January 1, 2018. Don was born on December 29, 1922, the son of Frank H. and Lucy (Fasig) Weiler.

Don proudly served his country during WWII with the US Army stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater including New Guinea, Northern Solomons, Southern Philippines and Luzon from January 1943 until December 1945. Upon his return home he asked the love of his life to be his bride. He and Louise Rouch were married on February 21, 1946 and had 65 wonderful years together until her death on October 21, 2011.

Don had been a lifelong member of Rowsburg Lutheran Church, a member of Rowsburg Lions Club, a member of the West Salem Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, and a long time member of the American Legion Post 88 in Ashland. Don bowled in a Lions Club League and was an avid golfer well into his 80's having been credited with 4 holes-in-one. He retired from Columbia Gas Transmission Company in 1985.

Don loved to watch things grow, which was apparent every summer when he planted his flowers around the house and his vegetable garden which was full of all kinds of goodies that he shared with his family and friends. And, there were many people that he called friends...Don was always willing to lend a hand, a tool, or advice. He was an excellent woodworker and made several pieces of furniture, bird houses and bird feeders; most of which he gave away, again to family members and friends. He was always, always busy doing one thing or another. For many years, Don and Louise kept a boat at Lake Erie, where they could be found fishing for Perch or Walleye on any nice Summer day. They went for a ride through the countryside almost every day and took many vacations throughout the New England states, Florida, Canada and the Western states and were on two cruises to the Caribbean and one to Alaska. When Louise developed dementia, Don lovingly and unfailingly took care of her, never forsaking his vows of so many years before.

Don was a family man, and was always at the center of any opportunity to get together with his children to celebrate a holiday or birthday. He often talked of times past and the fun he had raising his 4 children. Sharp, right up to the time of his death, Don always kept up with current news, whether it was local, state, national or even World events.

Besides his wife and parents, Don was preceded in death by his siblings; Ann Rogers, Frances Humrichouser, Bob Weiler, Stanton (Babe) Weiler, Bonnie Roller, John (Cal) Weiler, and Glenn Weiler.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Tom) Pate of Rowsburg, Frank of rural Ashland, Emma Lou (Tom) Boylan of Willard and Donna Sue (Paul) Arnholt of Mansfield; 4 grandchildren, Adam (Stacie) Pate of Cleveland, Susan Whitcum of Ashland, Jessica (Brad) Martin of Crestview, FL., Lynda Arnholt of Ellsworth, WI., 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Rowsburg Lutheran Church at 11:00 on Friday, January 5, 2018 with Pastor Steven Caler officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Internment will be at Rowsburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or any charity of choice.
