Don H. Ickes, 89 formerly of rural Wooster died Wednesday

October 17, 2012 at Wooster Community Hospital.  He was

born September 16, 1923 in Wayne Co. the son of Herbert Guy

and Flora Shoup Ickes.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World

War II where he received the Purple Heart in the South Pacific.

Don was a self-employed silo builder and also farmed.  He was

a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Wooster

the Wooster Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of Jerome Post

#749 American Legion and the Polk Amvets.

Mr. Ickes was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing on Lake

Erie.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Atterholt Ickes to whom he was

married October 22, 1948, a son, Ron (Karen) Ickes of Powell,

a daughter, Joyce (Tom) Barker of Wooster, 2 grandchildren,

Brian  and Matthew Barker, two sisters, Doris (Roy) Bowers and

Elma Fisher both of Wooster, two brothers, Robert Ickes of Polk

and Paul (Carol) Ickes of Wooster, and a step-brother, Merle Osborn

of Wooster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Bertha Elser,

Pauline Shank and Leora Bussinger, two brothers, Harold Ickes and

Clayton Ickes, and three step-brothers, Norm Osborn, Don Osborn

and Gerald Osborn.

Services will be 1:00 PM Friday October 19, 2012 at Fickes Funeral Home

in Jeromesville with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating.  Burial will be

in Fairhaven Cemetery where the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard

will conduct military rites.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the

funeral home.
