Dale
Warters
Oct 20, 1938 — Jun 11, 2017
Frederick Dale Warters, known to all who loved him as Dale, passed away unexpectedly, on June 11 at the age of 78 years old.
Born in Kane, Pennsylvania to Veda (Cotton) McGinnis and Harold Warters, on October 20th, 1938, Dale grew up in rural western Pennsylvania graduating from Parker High School in 1957 until military service took him overseas and then an apprenticeship in fire protection brought him to Ohio. Dale fondly called the countryside around Jeromesville Ohio home the remaining years of his life.
He shared his home and is survived and mourned by his wife of 36 years, Sylvia (Salyer), as well as his children Dirk Warters of Jeromesville, Heidi Marie Stieber (Michael) of Raleigh, NC and Scott Eichhorn of Las Vegas, NV, his grandsons, Jeremy and Draven Warters also of Jersomesville and his beloved little dog, Bolt.
Dale was a talented storyteller and always ready with a quick joke, but had a gentle and kind nature; he saved kids' meal coupons so when his buddy Bolt and he went into "town", Bolt could have a snack too; he always seemed to know when to do the "snow dance" so his kids would have off school with a snow day, and he had Absorbine Jr at the ready to dab on any ailment, as he saw it as a cure for almost everything.
He will be remembered as someone who was easy to smile and laugh, which was a good thing as he was a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was proud to have served his country in the Army and spoke about his experiences, sometimes with so much vivid detail as they had happened just a few short years ago. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, and spending time enjoying nature.
Those who knew him will recall him as a man who worked hard his entire life. Beginning with pulling oil wells as a boy, multi-tasking at a fuel station/cafe as an attendant and short order cook as a teen, and then dedicating his life to fire protection until his retirement.
Fire protection defined his professional life for 44 years. He worked first as a sprinkler fitter and then rose to the role of superintendent, working in the leadership position for more than 15 years with both Ohio Independent and Automatic Fire Protection. Dale was a proud member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry for more than 50 years. Rarely was there a building Dale did not walk into looking up - to note what kind of fire protection they had in place.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Dale is survived and mourned by his 103-year-old mother, Veda; four brothers, Amos of Flora, IN., Mac (Mae) of Emlenton, PA; Terry (Shirley) of Ashland, OH, and Lleuellyn of Ashland, OH; and three sisters, Louise (Jack) Carrick of New Kensington, PA, Karen Terwilliger of Boyers, PA and Abbie Reeder of Jackson Center, PA.
He was preceded in death and will be reunited with his father, Harold; his daughter, Cindy; two brothers, Lowry and Thayle McGinnis; sisters, Doris Dunkel and Cythina Campbell; mother in law, Gloria J. Salyer; sister-in-law Celia, and brothers-in-law Raymond Campbell, Russ Reeder, and Dave Terwilliger.
Calling hours will be Saturday June 17, 2017 from 10AM to 12PM at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with a Memorial Service to immediately follow at 12PM with Pastor Keith Winn officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations in memory of Dale be made to the church, Jeromesville Christian, of which he was a member and/or the charity organization in which he volunteered: Hillsdale CARES c/o Cindy Young 75 West Main St Rt 6 Ashland, OH 44805 or the Jeromesville Christian Church 75 North High Street Jeromesville, OH 44840.
