Connie Mae Frank, 87 of Ashland passed away Thursday May 14, 2026 at McMullen Assisted Care.
She was born December 20, 1938 in Ashland the daughter of Forest and Edna Fox Smith. She was a
1956 graduate of Hayesville High School and was a homemaker. Connie was a member of the Stone
Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for the youngest children and helped with
Bible School. She worked at Cresco as a sewer and enjoyed making clothes and home furnishings.
Connie started babysitting at age 14 with older kids, in and around Ashland and continued by helping
families where there were newborns and taking care of kids when their parents went on business trips
for a week or two. She also enjoyed helping people with housework. She enjoyed the outdoors, had a
big garden, canning and freezing food. She cooked or canned pears from trees, 2 or 3 bushel and did
yard work, mowing and trimming. In March or April, she cleaned fence row for asparagus to eat for 2
or 3 months. Connie also helped in her two sons school classes, Forest in the 2nd grade and Tom in
kindergarten. She also unloaded lots of hay bales and helped with sheep. She also cut hair with
scissors and comb for over 40 years. Connie helped her parents with numerous things.
She is survived by two sons, Forest Frank of Loudonville and Thomas (Collette) Frank of Salem, 3
grandchildren, Jennavieve Frank, Julia Frank and Landon Frank, and three brothers, Ronald (Suzanne)
Smith of Ashland, John (Phyllis) Smith of Encampment, Wyoming and Denny Smith of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Marion Frank.
Private family and friends graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday May 22, 2026 at
the Strickland Cemetery officiated by pastor Dave Matos.
A celebration of life will take place after the service concludes.
There will be no calling hours.
