She was a loyal partner, a loving mother and a passionate friend to anyone who had the good fortune to know her, but above all else, Treva Becker was a fighter.
And she fought her Myotonic Dystrophy with grace and dignity.
Treva’s battle ended March 7, 2019. She was 80 years old.
Born Treva June Davis on April 27, 1938, she graduated from Shreve High School in 1956 and married Stanley Becker on March 16, 1957. A year to the day after their marriage, Treva and Stan moved into the farmhouse they would share for the next 60 years. They raised three children, Aaron (Melissa) Becker of Jeromesville, Cheryl (Curt) Conrad of Mansfield and Brian (Johanna) Becker of Naperville, Illinois.
Together they traveled the country in an old Chevy van. As long as Treva was navigating from the passenger’s seat, they were never lost. She had a built-in compass. She was Google Maps before Google Maps.
And she was ancestry.com before ancestry.com. She knew by heart every branch, limb and leaf of the family tree. If someone wanted to know who his third cousin twice removed was, he knew whose counsel to seek.
Treva was an avid reader and loved to play all sorts of games. She was a member of her card club for more than 25 years and was Stan’s most trusted euchre partner.
By all accounts, Treva had a photographic memory. Her first job was as a bookkeeper and she passed down her love of math and numbers to her grandchildren.
There are five grandchildren, Amanda, Alex, Cruz, Meredith and Justine. Treva adored them all unconditionally. She and Stan would take them on long, lazy bike rides when their bodies still allowed.
As she got older, Treva’s sense of adventure never waned. She and Stan toured Mexico by train and zipped up the Pacific Coast to Alaska. Twice.
They flew to Australia. They stopped in New Zealand for good measure.
Even as her own health declined, Treva continued to care for Stan. He preceded her in death in November. She also was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Russel and Thelma June (Swart) Davis, a brother Dean Davis and a sister, Marilyn Hoffer.
She is survived by her three children, five grandchildren, sister, Gail Riggenbach and sister Bonnie Slicker.
Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Jeromesville United Methodist Church with the funeral service and a luncheon to follow. A graveside service will take place at Fairview Cemetery after the luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jeromesville United Methodist Church in Treva’s name.
Fickes Funeral Home is honored to handle the arrangements.
