Oscar McCardle (Birdie) Sands, 98 of Perrysville passed away Saturday January 4, 2020 at his
residence. He was born June 8, 1921 in Fredricksburg the son of Howard C. and Julia Vaughn Sands.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He worked at Nickles Bakery as a mechanic and had
also worked at Custom Hoist. Oscar was a member of the Perrysville VFW, Hayesville AmVets,
Jeromesville Legion Post #749, the 40 & eight and the Polk AmVets.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Sands of Wooster, a son, Mike Sands, two step-daughters, Becky
(Doug) Shultz and Susan (Lowell) McClure,6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great great
grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, Avis Stewart of South Carolina and Cheryl Simmons of Ashland
and his beagle, Lori.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 1st wife, Marie Sands, his 2nd wife, Gwen Sands, and 2
brothers, Raymond Sands and Clarence “Short” Sands.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday January 10, 2020 at Vermillion Cemetery with Pastor Ben
Roby officiating, where military rites will be performed.
The family would like to thank friends and caregivers, Caleb, Brenda, Missy, Denise, Jodi, Brandi,
Carol and Lisa.
